VKC typically occurs in school-age male children, with an age of onset prior to 10 years in 80% of cases
(typical range, 4-7 years)1,2

A survey involving ophthalmologists from 6 countries in Western Europe estimated the overall prevalence of VKC to be 3.2/10,000 inhabitants, with a prevalence of 0.8/10,000 inhabitants for VKC with corneal complications1

These differences in prevalence could be due to genetic differences, environmental factors (climate, socioeconomic status, lifestyle), and/or gene-environment interactions2
